Q1 2026 Financial Literacy Index — now available

From survey to public knowledge

Our methodology moves through three clear phases — each designed to produce reliable, independent data and make it genuinely useful for citizens, educators, and researchers.

01

We design the surveys

Each quarter, our team develops structured questionnaires covering financial concepts, saving behaviours, debt management, and consumption patterns. Questions are tested for clarity and calibrated to detect real knowledge gaps rather than surface-level familiarity.

02

We collect and process the data

Responses are gathered from representative samples across different age groups, income levels, and regions of Spain. Raw data is cleaned, weighted, and analysed using methods that allow for meaningful comparisons across time and demographic segments.

03

We publish openly

Reports, indicator dashboards, and educational materials are released publicly at no cost. The goal is not just to measure financial literacy — it is to actively contribute to improving it through accessible, honest information.

Inside the quarterly cycle

Every report follows a structured workflow that keeps data quality high and publication timelines consistent. Here is what happens between one report and the next.

1

Questionnaire design and review

The research team drafts the quarterly survey questions, drawing on existing financial literacy frameworks and the previous quarter's findings. Questions are reviewed internally and adjusted to ensure they remain relevant to current economic conditions in Spain.

2

Field work and data collection

Surveys are distributed across a stratified sample covering Spain's 17 autonomous communities. Field collection runs for approximately six weeks, long enough to reach response targets in each demographic segment without introducing seasonal distortion.

3

Analysis and indicator calculation

Raw responses are cleaned, anonymised, and weighted. The team calculates composite indicators including the Fundalario Financial Literacy Index, the Family Savings Ratio, and the Consumption Habit Score. Each indicator follows a documented methodology available in our annexes.

4

Publication and resource release

The completed report is published on this site in full, alongside an executive summary, data tables, and any updated educational resources. All materials are freely downloadable. There is no registration required and no content is paywalled.
